We especially welcome new entries however small your Community Group.
The School Garden, Urban Community and Town Centre Categories have been running for some time now.
We introduced two additional categories, Health & Social Care Establishments and Allotments.
Category 16 – Healthcare Establishments
Category 17 – Allotments
Category 9 - Urban Community
It must be an identifiable Community within a larger conurbation, Town or City. It must have its own identity and ideally have a group dedicated to leading the ‘In Bloom’ initiative locally. An Urban Community will have its own sense of purpose and may set its own precept. Whilst there will be horticultural interest, importance will also be attached to community and business support, heritage, and environmental aspects of the area. The presence of Friends and other action groups will be of importance.
Category 14 – City and Town Centre
This category will have a new criteria which will take account of business, public and local authority support within a large Town or City Centre within a 1km radius of a known central point. Community and local support will be important in the assessment process, and the criteria will be adjusted accordingly to take account of the different factors within the area designated. Environmental, heritage, landscape and horticultural elements will also be considered.
Category 15 – School Garden
Clearly it would not be possible to visit all the entries should support be considerable. Each School should submit electronically 5 photographs of their projects with a maximum of 500 words to support their entry. These will then be assessed and a short list of six drawn up, which will be subject to a visit by our assessors, to reduce this to three winners. Prizes will be given in National Garden Vouchers of £150, £100 and £50. It will be necessary to levy a small charge as indicated above to cover our administrative and assessment costs. The winning 3 Schools will be invited to the Presentation Ceremony.
Best Front Garden
Categories 1 – 8. Entries into these categories normally take Judges to an exceptional front garden as part of their visit. Whilst judging they will take a photograph of ONE front garden, with some local information. These photographs will then be assessed at a later Judges’ meeting to determine an overall winner. There is no entry fee for this initiative and the winner will be invited to the Award Ceremony in September.
Changes to Categories
To bring us into line with the Royal Horticultural Society, adjustments to our entry criteria for City, Towns and Villages are necessary. These will not affect all entries but the introduction of Coastal Category is new. Towns can choose whether they enter as a Coastal or Town entry within the population figure.
Closing date for receipt of all Entries is 31st March Annually. Receipt of all entries will be acknowledged by email.
Judging will take place during the period First Two Weeks in July. The Judges decision is final.
